This research project aimed to explore the relationship between urban transformations, possible processes of gentrification and displacement of the population of lower resources and the construction of spaces of citizenship in the city of Quito in the period 2000-2015. Urban areas with possible substitution of lower income population were identified in the census tracts of the city of Quito, and the causes of gentrification and their impact on the generation of conflicts and collective actions were analysed. With this exploratory exercise, it was possible to contribute elements to the theoretical discussion about gentrification and spaces of citizenship in the particular context of Quito.
